I have been at the new house almost five days a week for 4-6 hours painting and with no screens for the windows and just fans (curacao doesn't believe in air conditioning) and let me tell you it has been a sweaty paint splattered couple of weeks!
I wanted to come and just sorta show the beginning of the painting pictures!
So... here are some pictures that my hubby took of me painting the ceiling. Do not let the big smile on my face fool you- painting that ceiling was no piece of cake and it definitely didn't turn out as well as I had like. When it comes down to it, the reason (my mum informed me) was because I used semi-gloss, so the light bounces off of it and shows all the little streaks that painting leaves. Oh well, I learn. :)
Since my husband sits behind a computer all day he was excited to help out by removing all of the cabinet doors and drawers for me. It was his first "around the house" job and I'm glad he was there to do it because tools are not my cup of tea.
The cabinets were originally this awful cream color so we decided it would be nice to give them a fresher look by painting them white. As you can see I set them up, cleaned them off with Simple Green (a magical product) and that sponge in the bottom left hand corner of the pic. Then I went to work and I took this picture after I'd finished the drawer to the far left. I don't think that the above picture does the new paint job justice. They look wonderful!
This green was the color that Kyle picked out... out of all the greens.... I'm not going to lie- it shocked me! But he showed me some pictures of some more modern looking homes and sure enough that green looked stunning. When I started painting it though, as you can see, it looked pretty awful. But as you'll see below, it evened out and turned out pretty great.
The edges aren't done here yet and I do not think that the color comes across very well. It is really a color that you would have to see in person (or maybe on a better camera... I've been addicted with the idea of getting a Nikon or something equally as awesome. Unfortunately they are all equally as expensive).
We decided to go with a grey for the rest of the walls which will contrast amazingly with the white tile and cabinets, along with the black granite counter tops in the kitchen! This is the grey after just one coat... more to come later with the painting update!
I thought I'd part with a couple things:
- I am starting to love this house more and more everyday.
- Kyle is actually starting to be able to picture himself living there comfortably.
- Even thought the rain has brought these weeds to the back yard, at sunset they are breath-taking
- Looking up while painting a ceiling gets you a little bit splattered as I mentioned before!
