Blue Orange Green Pink Purple

my thoughts on my new life

a little bit of this and a little bit of that.

Where are we?

Since this weekend was a three day weekend, Kyle and I decided that Monday would be a good day to try to find a beach. We figured this wouldn't be difficult because we had this illusion that we were surrounded by beaches. Not true. We are surrounded by ocean, and beaches... well you have to search for those. We had heard of a good beach called Portomiri and looked it up on google maps. Here's the thing about Curacao, no street signs unless you are in residential areas, and even then it's iffy. So we counted turns and thought we could figure it out. We drove for an hour. Everything was so green by the roads though, it was a "country" feeling drive.

When we saw the ocean we pulled over and realized that we were on the northwest side of the island and wanted to be on the southwest side. Still we found a dirty little beach with hut thingys, boats and construction workers... but the water was gorgeous.

Kyle was looking through all the broken coral and sea glass on the shore and he found a little slug, it wouldn't stop moving so couldn't get a good picture but I though the picture I did get was still cute.

So we decided that we weren't quite frustrated or tired out enough to give up, so we went back the direction we came from until we felt it was a good place to turn. Finally we reached a fork in the road so we asked a construction worker if we should go left or right to get to Portomiri and he told us left... so we trusted him and left we went. We got really excited when we passed a church and a cemetery because those were two of the land marks we'd been looking for. Also, it was all so beautiful!

We finally found Playa Portomiri and we were so relieved! We just laid on the beach and swam in the warm ocean water for three hours or so. it was all worth it.

Turns out the beach is only about 20 minutes from our apartment... go figure. :)

A Colorful Life

  • About
My name is Victoria and I got married in September of 2010 to the man of my dreams. We quickly up and left for a small island off the north coast of Venezuela called Curacao. I'm a full time house wife and I'm trying to learn what that means for me. I feel like I'm learning more about my husband, myself and my new life everyday.
